Measuring blood pressure is a measurement of the force applied to the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood through your body. Your blood pressure can be measured at home, at your healthcare provider’s office, and at our pharmacy.

Being proactive about maintaining a healthy blood pressure can lower your risk of stroke, heart disease and other health problems.

Free Blood Pressure Check: Monitor Your Heart Health

At Medrocs Pharmacy, we’re committed to helping you stay healthy and manage your overall well-being. That’s why we offer free blood pressure checks as part of our preventive care services.

Why Monitor Your Blood Pressure?

Monitoring your blood pressure is an important part of managing your cardiovascular health. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common condition that can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health problems. Regular blood pressure checks can help you identify potential issues early on, so you can take steps to manage your blood pressure and reduce your risk of complications.

Our Free Blood Pressure Check Services

At Medrocs Pharmacy, we offer free blood pressure checks to help you monitor your heart health. Our experienced pharmacists will use a calibrated blood pressure monitor to take your blood pressure reading. We’ll explain the results to you and answer any questions you may have about your blood pressure or cardiovascular health.

In addition to our free blood pressure checks, we offer a range of other health screening services to help you stay on top of your health. From cholesterol screenings to diabetes management, we’re here to support you in your journey to better health.

Your blood pressure is highest when your heart contracts, pumping the blood through your arteries. This is called systolic pressure. Your blood pressure is lowest when your heart is at rest, between beats. This is diastolic pressure.

Your blood pressure reading uses these two numbers, the systolic and diastolic pressures. Usually they are written one above or before the other:

  • 119 (systolic)/79 (diastolic) or lower = normal blood pressure
  • 120-139 for the top number, or 80-89 for the bottom number = pre-hypertension
  • 140/90 or higher = high blood pressure

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, except occasional headaches. It can cause serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure. You can control high blood pressure through healthy lifestyle habits and medication, if needed. A diagnosis of hypertension (a lasting medical condition where your blood pressure readings are consistently high) can only be made after a number of high blood pressure readings.

What abnormal blood pressure results mean?

  • If your blood pressure is between 120/80 and 130/80 mm Hg, you have elevated blood pressure.
  • If your blood pressure is higher than 130/80 but lower than 140/90 mm Hg, you have Stage 1 high blood pressure.
  • If your blood pressure is higher than 140/90 mm Hg, you have Stage 2 high blood pressure.

Most of the time, high blood pressure does not cause symptoms.

If you have diabetes, heart disease, or kidney problems, or if you previously have had a stroke, your provider may want your blood pressure to be lower.

The most commonly used blood pressure targets for people with these medical problems are below 130 to 140/80 mm Hg.

How to prepare for a blood pressure test?

  • Rest for at least five minutes before blood pressure is taken
  • Do not take your blood pressure when you are under stress, have had caffeine or used a tobacco product in the past 30 minutes, or have recently exercised
  • Remain seated with your legs uncrossed
  • Take two or three readings per sitting
  • Note the time of the reading
  • You may want to take your blood pressure in the morning and at night for a week at the same time every day

These tips will give you at least 12 readings and will help your healthcare provider make decisions about your blood pressure treatment needs.
