  • Allows for flexible, personalized dosing
  • Supports symptom-based treatment

Understanding Perimenopause, Menopause & Early Ovarian Decline

Perimenopause

The transition into menopause which can last up to 10 years, often beginning in your early forties. Symptoms vary, but many women experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and brain fog. Hormone replacement therapy can help ease this transition and support long‑term wellness.

Menopause

Clinically defined as 12 months without a period, typically happening around age 51.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

Affects 1-3.7% of women, causing menopause before age 40.

The Greene Scale

The Greene Climacteric Scale is a screening tool used to identify individual treatment needs. Take the Greene Scale Questionnaire.

Progesterone Therapy

Progesterone is another hormone, this one balances estrogen, supports sleep, stabilizes mood, and protects the uterus (if you have one).

FAQs

What hormone levels should I get tested before starting therapy?

For most women 45 and older, routine hormone level testing is not recommended. According to the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), blood, saliva, and urine hormone tests are not reliable for diagnosing menopause or adjusting treatment. Instead, providers look at your symptoms, medical history, and risk factors to guide therapy. Testing may be helpful if you are Under age 40 (to evaluate for premature ovarian insufficiency), between 40–44 with irregular cycles or being evaluated for other endocrine conditions (thyroid issues, high prolactin, pregnancy). If testosterone replacement is warranted, you'll want a baseline for that.

How long does it take to notice a difference with hormone therapy?

Most women start to feel better within 6–8 weeks, though some notice improvements as early as 4 weeks. Full benefits — especially for testosterone — may take up to 12 weeks. Therapy should be reassessed if no improvement by six months.

Do I need hormone testing to adjust my dose?

Most women do not. NAMS (3) states that blood, saliva, and urine hormone tests are not reliable for adjusting menopausal hormone therapy. Your symptoms and side effects guide dosing more accurately than lab numbers.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For healthy women under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, hormone therapy is considered safe and effective for treating hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal symptoms. Your provider will help you choose the safest route and dose based on your personal risk factors.

What are the benefits of hormone therapy?

Many women experience better sleep, improved mood, fewer hot flashes, more energy, and enhanced sexual wellness. Estrogen also supports bone health and may help protect long‑term cardiovascular health when started early in menopause.

Whare the possible side effects?

Side effects vary by hormone and dose. Some women may experience breast tenderness, bloating, headaches, mood changes, or light spotting. These usually improve as your body adjusts.

Do I need progesterone if I’m taking estrogen?

Yes — if you still have a uterus. Progesterone protects the uterine lining and reduces the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. Women without a uterus typically do not need progesterone

Can I take progesterone if I don't have a uterus?

Yes, although not required, it can help balance your estrogen therapy and help with sleep.
